Freediving Courses in Koh Tao

Freediving here isn't about holding your breath. It's about learning to let go — and finding that depth follows.

In short

Blue Chitta teaches freediving in Koh Tao across eight programmes, from a 3,500฿ one-day Discovery through Level 1 certification, Advanced, a 4-week Master course and an Instructor pathway. Every course integrates breathwork, meditation, yoga and ice baths, because depth in freediving is a direct side effect of how relaxed your nervous system is.

A day

You have an afternoon and a morning. That is enough to learn what your body already knows how to do — how to breathe, how to relax, how to follow a line down and come back up smiling. Nothing to prepare, nothing to prove.

Three or four days

Long enough to be certified, and long enough for the change to stick. Twelve metres on the second day, twenty on the third — then, if you stay, the moment freefall takes over and you stop swimming altogether. Evenings are yoga, breathwork and an ice bath.

A month, or a career

Thirty days, twenty-three water sessions, five disciplines, one day off a week. This is where freediving stops being a holiday and becomes the way you live — and, for some, the thing you teach.

Why relaxation, not effort

When you hold your breath and submerge, your body activates the mammalian dive reflex — a physiological response that lets you dive deeper and stay longer. To reach it, your nervous system has to be relaxed. That is why meditation, breathwork, yoga, ice baths and mindfulness are built into the courses rather than sold beside them. Depth becomes a side effect of relaxation.

What makes it different here

Small groups and personalised attention, a calm and supportive learning environment, some of the best dive sites on Koh Tao, and a private boat for flexible training and direct access to the water. Plus an on-site vegetarian café and accommodation, so the whole day supports the diving.

All of them, side by side.

Retreat versions add sea-view accommodation, meals, yoga and ice baths; taking a retreat without the stay is 10% off.

Questions, answered clearly.

The useful details first. Ask the team when your plans need a specific answer.

Which freediving course should I start with?

If you are curious and have a day, start with Freediving Discovery (3,500฿) or Intro to Freediving (4,500฿). If you want a certification, start with the 3-day Level 1 course.

Do I need experience to start freediving?

No. Discovery, Intro and Level 1 all require no prior experience.

Why does Blue Chitta teach yoga alongside freediving?

Depth is a direct side effect of relaxation. Yoga and breathwork teach the body to release and the mind to stop overthinking, and targeted lung stretching keeps the breathing organs supple under pressure.
